Locals aghast as Sikh Bagh marriage hall in shambles | KNO

Srinagar, May 01 (KNO): Residents of Nowshehra and Sikh Bagh areas of Srinagar City have expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the Community Facilitation Centre at Sikh Bagh. The marriage hall, meant to serve as a venue for public events, is reportedly facing serious infrastructure issues. A local from the area informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a leaking water supply line has made four washrooms non-functional, while the motor responsible for pumping water to the overhead tank is completely damaged. He said this has affected water availability in the remaining washrooms as well. “This is not just an inconvenience, but it is a complete failure of the system. How can such a big hall be brought into such a state?” questioned Imran Ahmad, a local resident. “A family was humiliated in front of guests because of something that could have been prevented with timely repairs,” he added. Another local from the area said the host family was left helpless on the day of the wedding. Similarly, locals also criticized the absence of a proper mechanism to report such issues. “The first point of contact is a non-official local person who could not do anything,” said Farooq Khan, another resident, adding that a team of officials visited but left without taking accurate steps. “If they were serious, they could have sent trained technicians.” Meanwhile, the residents and the affected family have urged the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to carry out urgent repairs and put a responsive team in place to maintain the facility. Pertinently, the marriage hall was inaugurated in October 2020 by Parvez Ahmad Qadari, who was mayor at that time, in the presence of then-Commissioner Gazanffer Ali—(KNO)
